Welcome to the first in what will be a weekly look at some of the best cosplayers from around the world.

Today we highlight Pin-Up/Alternative/Fashion/Cosplay Model and Make-Up Artist Lacy Von Voorhees. Follow her on Twitter and Instagram @LacyVonV.

We had a chance to catch up with Lacy recently to chat about her cosplay beginnings, and what we can look forward to.

Tell us a little about your background and how you got into cosplay.

I’ve always been into anime. When I was a little girl I got into Sailor Moon, I dressed as her for Halloween. Since then I have been fascinated by that style of artwork and Japanese pop culture.  I got into modeling around August 2009 doing a lot of fashion and edgy type shoots. I had seen images on sites of models “cosplaying” but didn’t really grasp the fact that there was a whole world of cosplay. But I just really wanted a chance to dress up as some of my favorite characters.

In 2011, I shot with CK December (a cosplay photographer) for a clothing company that sells a lot of cosplay outfits and Kawaii Japanese inspired clothing. Carroll of CK December told me everything there is to know about the conventions and cosplaying. I figured since I already loved costuming and doing wardrobe, hair & makeup for the majority of my shoots, attending conventions would be perfect.

Any notable cosplay experiences?

I attended NY Comic Con this year as Babydoll from the movie Sucker Punch. With an amazing response from all the people I met there, cosplaying and convention going is something I definitely look to continue. I will be attending Katsucon this February in Maryland.

I see you’re appearing in the Hellion 2013 Calendar – tell us about it!

This will be my 2nd year in a row being in her calendar, she is one of my favorite NJ photographers. She has a dark, eerie style about her work and I love it. It’s always fun shooting something a little different with her.

Wow I’m egotistical, because my first thought was, “I don’t remember putting together a calender.” Other than that, great article. Looking forward to more of them, and I have a couple people to suggest if you ever need.

Throw em my way! I’ll credit you as the finder. Yeah, when I saw that calendar name I thought of you.

I totally love Lacy! I think she is amazing on what she does, and she deserves way more attention that she currently has, but I’m sure she’ll be famous in the future just because of how good her production value is, also I’m looking forward for this weekly cosplayers section, sounds really interesting (:
