Talk about a good question: Reddit user Nighthawk122 recently asked fellow users what one thing “just ain’t the same anymore”, and got about 10,000 comments in response. Here are some of the best replies:
Throwing people into pools. You can’t just grab someone and throw them in without risking $100s in electronics. (TheBobHatter)
Driving… Before I had a car or a license driving was this grand expression of freedom. I would say things like “When I get a car….”. Now, I just shuttle children back and forth to activities and drive to work… In a minivan. (NJfishkid)
Toys. BRING BACK DIE-CAST METAL! (Ephemeris)
Renting movies. I miss going to the video store, and looking through the aisles. The old school days with the large VHS art boxes are over. It was always fun to go down to the video store on a Friday night, and bump into people renting movies etc. (bsend)
Saturday morning cartoons. (MrFahrenheit742)
Trick or treating. Used to be a night of exploration/adventure across the extended neighborhood, without parents, with the reward of a shit ton of candy. Now it’s paranoia city, with only immediate neighbors, family, and friends. Kids nowadays don’t know what they’re missing. (Justlikecalvin)
This Juicy Fruit that I started chewing 7 seconds ago. (sassyandy)
umm…
Calling somebody. No need to remember phone numbers, wait for appropriate calling times, nervousness about who is going to answer the phone, hoping that your friend is home so you can talk with him/her. Calling a girl you had a crush on was really really nerve wrecking. (dadwithnotime)
Skittles. I loved the lime flavored green ones, but now [they’re] green apple. (Sereneyeti)
This person was so offended they sent them back to Wrigley
And I can relate to Q-tipPro-tip, who says: “Orange fanta. I live in Australia and it doesn’t taste the same as it used to. It just..have they changed the recipe? I dont know. It cant be just me right?” — I hate when they silently tinker with drink formulas. Looking at you AMP!
But livenootrac really says it best: “As someone born in the early 70’s my answer is: everything.”

I miss not having schedules. Everything is scheduled.
When I was a kid I had lots of free time and little money, now it is the same but I have no time as well. Adulthood is the pits.
Records, cassettes, CDs…tangible music. Large album art and folded inserts.
Clicking a computer file sucks…
Riding bikes with friends to the store with our pocket money, buying snacks and cokes then hanging out at the mall, by ourselves. Parents would never allow kids to do that now. We felt like kings in junior high (1989) doing this.
I miss when toy companies only marketed towards children!
Green Apple Skittles are an abomination and a slight against God. I will not stand for this ongoing war against lime flavoring!
I like green apple Skittles.
