6 Predictions You Can Bookmark

in Lists

Long-term predictions are easy to make. You can typically toss ’em around all haphazard, since nobody remembers to call you out on them by the time the result is public.

That’s why I invite you to bookmark this page, and check back in the future for accuracy. Some of these will be decided in a few months, some in a few years, but you can quote me on each and every one!

Here we go:

FOX’s New Girl runs 7 seasons and is lauded as one of the best shows on television.

Wisely, showrunner Liz Meriwhether has moved the focus of the show from its main character to the entire cast. In its first season, the writers of New Girl are setting up long-running storylines and complex character inter-relationships. Watching every episode of the first season brings to mind the rookie campaigns of successful shows such as Friends and How I Met Your Mother.

The Avengers outgrosses The Dark Knight Rises.

I’m not a box office guy, so I have no idea if that is an obvious call or not. I just know Marvel does comic book movies better than DC, and this summer will be no different. Kids will carry The Avengers farther than Nolan’s complicated conclusion to his take on Batman.

The Los Angeles Angels win the 2012 World Series.

Not because of Albert Pujols (though he will certainly help), but because they have 4 top shelf starting pitchers, 2 of which can go toe to toe with anyone in the league.

Saturday Night Live will be as good without Wiig, Sudeikis & Samberg as it was with them.

People are quick to bury SNL whenever one of their top stars leaves the show. At the end of this season, they lose three of their biggest current draws, but there is a lot of potential breakout talent left on the roster. Jay Pharoah and Bobby Moynihan come to mind, and we know Bill Hader has no desire to leave.

Everyone freaked out when Myers, Sandler and Farley were gone, but that era gave way to the Ferrell, Fay, Fallon years. Not too shabby. It’s SNL – they’ll always recruit the top talent from the regional comedy troupes – just because we haven’t heard of them doesn’t mean they won’t be the next big thing.

Either M.A.S.K. or Silverhawks will get a reboot in the next 12 months

The list is impressive: G.I. Joe, Transformers, Thundercats, Voltron, TMNT – and with last week’s announcement of a new DC Comics Masters of the Universe project, it keeps growing. That list represents properties that rose to prominence in the 80s and have been rebooted in some form recently.

The trend will continue, since these properties appeal to the disposable income demographic of 25-34 year old males. Personally, I am neither 25-34 years of age, nor do I have disposable income, but I usually find a way to pony up for action figures and movies based on my beloved 80s properties. These two would be no different.

Cartoon Network teased a Silverhawks redux by including a shot of Mon*Star in the background of a episode of Thundercats in 2011, and there are plenty of talented people working to make a M.A.S.K. reboot a reality.

The Denver Broncos make the 2012 AFC Championship, and lose on the road.

Signing Peyton Manning makes them instant contenders, and likely champs of a weak AFC West. That’s enough to have home field advantage early in the playoffs, but they won’t be the #1 seed. They’ll have to go on the road in January 2013 and play a team like Pittsburgh, New England, or Baltimore.

Bold Predictions!

Not bad though, I’d be fine with them all … cept maybe the Broncos if it causes my Bengals to not go far, BUT if we are the ones that beat them then …

YES to Silverhawks, been calling for that for ages!

World Series? eh.
… If it’s not the Reds, Henry from Punky Brewster could pitch in the Show for all I care

The Avengers will outgross everybody’s fayce!

The Dark Knight rises will disappoint!

New girl, I just cant … dont wanna, feh eff it

I’ll still watch SNL but I’ll miss those characters … and Bill Hader is that dude!

They do need new blood

Now make 6 Predictions that have NO shot at happening!

Good predictions. I can honestly see them all happening.

eclectik, I’ll take up your challenge.
1. The Pittsburgh Pirates will make the playoffs.
2. Battleship will be the biggest blockbuster of the summer.
3. Rick Santorum will win the 2012 Presidential election.
4. Luck will return to HBO but will be about greyhound racing instead.
5. The Iron Sheik will return to the WWE and will win the Intercontinental Championship
6. Snooki will give birth to a human baby.

Howie Decker April 11, 2012 at 7:36 pm

All impossible. Well, the Pirates do have a shot to surprise.

Howie Decker April 11, 2012 at 7:35 pm

The Bengals do appear headed in the right direction. Just like the EDP! Boom

Lamar the Revenger April 9, 2012 at 8:50 pm

I can believe them all. MASK has been itching for a remake. Broncos will get their rears handed by Pittsburgh. SNL did fine with Drunk Uncle, but thank the Lord above there’s not gonna be any more of that damn Gilly. I just hope Moynihan doesn’t succumb to the SNL Fat Man Curse.

Howie Decker April 11, 2012 at 7:37 pm

It seems like Bobby has a good head on his shoulders (ie. no Farley-esque crazed look in his eye)

MASK Movie (@maskmovie) April 10, 2012 at 2:05 pm

Obviously, we hope we’ll get a call or email in the next 12 months from DC. Would still be happy if we don’t and M.A.S.K. still gets made!!
Silverhawks would be great too!

Thanks for the plug!

Howie Decker April 11, 2012 at 7:43 pm

No thanks necessary, just remember us lil guys when you become the Affleck/Damon of 80s geeks

zedhatch April 10, 2012 at 9:54 pm

Somehow I don’t see MASK returning, Hasbro has almost waited TOO Long for that and I think they know it.

Avengers, maybe, I can see that happening.

Skipping the sports because I hate sports.

New Girl is still on? I only see that happening if they get a TBS Deal like Big Bang Theory.

Howie Decker April 11, 2012 at 7:44 pm

Yep, a cable network like TBS picking up eps in syndication is where the $ is. Seems like that is every sitcom’s goal.

Jaina April 11, 2012 at 11:28 am

I worry for New Girl, I don’t want it to turn into a HIMYM!

Howie Decker April 11, 2012 at 7:45 pm

How do you mean? Has HIMYM veered off course in your opinion?
