UnderScoopFire Podcast #39 – Geek Confessions

by Howie Decker @HowardTheDeck on June 27, 2012

in Podcast

These are our confessions.

Recently, Howie Decker unveiled an embarrassing list. He published a list of the Top 10 Movies He’d Never Seen, trotting such skeletons out of his closet as never having seen Karate Kid, Stand By Me, The Godfather, and Jaws.

This post was met with shock and awe, as the readers flocked to the comments, Facebook and Twitter to admonish, pity, and reprimand him for his transgressions.

Based on the outpouring of response, the other 4 USF Voltron Lions came to Decker’s aid, and decided to reveal similar lists on this podcast. While movies are definitely discussed, these confessions cover TV, video games, childhood, and MUCH more.

In this episode:

    • Tank is SCOOPin’ Rob Zombie’s Broad Street Bullies (based on the 1970s Philadelphia Flyers – it does look awesome).
    • Googs is SCOOPin’ Rochester Real Beer Week, particularly at his favorite bar Tap & Mallet. Locals can friend them on Facebook here.
    • Corey watched FOX’s New Girl season 1 from start to finish, we get his reaction.
    • Why @underscoopfire had to block its first Twitter follower
    • CONFESSIONS! All 5 members of the roundtable admit to various shortcomings- a sample of what is brought up: Sex & The City, Titanic, & The Spice Girls

Show notes:

Here’s the book Howie got for Father’s Day – Darth Vader & Son. A great gift for any Star Wars fan.

The Twitter Avatar of the Week is @nachosarah. She truly gets hotter every avatar change.

For your information, Googs has “plenty of cable”.

Hi, my name is Jason and I think Tropic Thunder is the worst movie ever made. Oh, and I pretty much dislike everything Will Farrell has done after SNL…yes that includes Elf and Anchor Man.

Howie Decker June 27, 2012 at 9:15 am

Hi Jason. You’re safe here. Especially with me, who hasn’t even seen Tropic Thunder. Thanks for sharing. Let the healing process begin.

Jason G June 27, 2012 at 5:39 pm

Thanks Howie. Was hoping you’d still be my friend for not connecting with one of your faves Anchorman…I feel like I owed you that one you Gooniebasher!

You’re right it’s gonna be hard to top this one. Googs is the MVP of this episode. LMAO’d at several of his comments. He has plenty of cable!

I feel like I’m some sort of hater (I kinda am in a way I guess) after listening to this one. I feel like I agreed with everyone who hated on and/or “dont get” something. I do like FPS video games, although I am pretty damn good at them imo. Bioshock is a hell of a game. Would make a great, twisted movie!

I especially hear ya on the Dave Matthews thing too. That is NOT my type of music at all. There’s no good DMB songs and I just don’t get it the infatuation there. Pretty sure I was in the parking lot at the Bills Stadium concert that Corey spoke of. I was only there for the party aspect of it though where as some of my friends/acquaintances actually cared about the damn band that I can’t stand.

Also hate, HATE reality tv. I hate on it all the time. I do end up watching a couple “reality” shows though, but I have a rule to that. I can only watch “reality” tv if it’s about something interesting. Like Pawn Stars, Storage Wars, and shit like that. I don’t care about the “reality” characters “acting” and/or trying to be funny, I care about the cool stuff you see. Also I can watch Food Network “reality” tv too.

Again great episode. One of the funniest USF episodes I’ve listened to. You know it’s gonna be a memorable USF episode when there’s a “shit my pants” confession. Those episodes are my favorites. lol!

And coming to Howie’s defense again, don’t feel bad…I like the Spice Girls too. And 2 Become 1 is my favorite song by them as a group. Emma Bunton aint bad, but I had a thing for Posh back when they first existed as the Spice Girls.

My confession from when Howie posted his movies that he never seen was that I’ve never seen a Star Wars movie. I’m sure I’ve seen bits and pieces here and there, but I never seen one in full. I think it’s because I’m just a little bit too young for Star Wars. Also, my dad was always a Star Trek guy not a Star Wars guy so maybe that didnt help. Not that I’m into Star Trek either, but he didnt get me interested in Star Wars. I definitely have friends that are into Star Wars and tried to make me watch it but I never gave in. I guess it’s just too popular of a thing for me, not my style. I’ve played some Star Wars video games here and there, and I always thought lightsabers were DAMN cool. I like Darth Maul if that counts for anything, but that’s based purely on appearance. Sue me.

Again, great episode, great entertainment! Thank you! 🙂

Googs certainly had some gems in this one. Thanks for the mega-comment, Count! Appreciate your Spice Girls support. I’m glad you gave some reasoning behind the not-seeing-Star-Wars thing, because we would have had to ask. Your defense seems like a valid one :). Funny to think you were in the Orchard Park tailgating crowd – we’ll go back and look at the photos and see if we can spot a guy selling black Eternia flowers to the concert-goers 🙂

Count Marzo June 29, 2012 at 5:55 pm

I think I was a buyer that day if I remember correctly. That was the only reason I was in the parking lot at a Dave Matthews Band concert. Same thing for Phish and shit like that too. Not into that kind of music, just was there for the goods. Those were the days. lol

Classick Material June 27, 2012 at 4:22 pm

What an episode! The shame that you guys all must feel for baring your geek souls on this one!

But so you don’t feel alone, here’s one of many confessions I’ll make for you guys, also having to do with movie sequels…

I saw “Major League II” before I ever saw “Major League”. And I liked II better! Well, up until Mekhi Phi… I mean Omar Epps as Willie Mays Hayes, that part I preferred Wesley Snipes in the role.

So yeah, it took me a few years after the fact to get the “Yo, bartender, Jobu needs a refill!” reference.

My name is Classick.

Jason G June 27, 2012 at 5:38 pm

I’ve never seen II or III and don’t care to…nothing can top “Up your butt, Jobu.”
