When UnderScoopFire was launched back in August 2011, our goal was to create content for children of the 80s. We never claimed to be a retro site, rather a site for fans who held those memories dear, but live in the now.
We quickly realized that the love for G.I. Joe is as strong now as it ever was, and that passion has help us connect with some great people. With all of the general nonsense that we’ve dedicated many episodes of our show to, it was finally time to get serious. As serious as we can be, that is. It was high time for the All-G.I. Joe edition of the UnderScoopFire Podcast!
This week we are proud to present a roundtable of some of the foremost Joe authorities, and we are humbled to have them join us as we are huge fans of each of their respective sites and podcasts. Let’s introduce the panel:
- From The Terrordrome – Jason
- Co-Host of Flag Points – Dave
- From GeneralsJoes & the What’s on Joe Mind Podcast – Justin Bell
- UnderScoopFire’s own G.I. Joe – Joe “Alley Viper” Zicari
If a larger panel was audibly feasible we would have loved to expand the roundtable, as there are so many more respected Joe voices out there. We did our best to encourage participation via the G.I. Joe Questionnaire, and read some of the responses on the show.
In this episode:
We take a look at G.I. Joe past and present, discussing in roundtable format:
- The history of G.I. Joe (comics, cartoons, action figures, etc.)
- The present Joe community
- The upcoming G.I. Joe: Retaliation
- The 2012 Joe Con in New Orleans
- Favorite characters, figures, episodes, and more!
We were honored to have all of our guests join us via the Nerd Rage Toys hotline! Please feel free to continue the conversation in the comments, adding your personal favorite Joes, Cobras and more. Let us know what other property deserves an episode to itself!

Easily the best podcast ever…..based mostly on my name being dropped Multiple times. Hail Cobra! ……PS- Big Boa will be waiting on you all in the parking lot.
Let the record show that no one from USF bad mouthed Mr. Boa sir. Please don’t be in our parking lot! (unless he’s driving the ice cream truck) (in that case I want one of the baseball mitts with the baseball gumball) Thanks.
I’m so damn excited to hear the all GIJoe episode it hurts. I’m actually looking forward to commuting so I can start the podcast… unfortunately going to fucking work after that is what I have to look forward to. But I’ll have the rest of USF to keep me company at least.
P.S. how about a monthly all-GIJoe edition of the podcast? (mostly joking)
How fun would that be? Thing is, these guys do that a lot better than we ever could. We will leave the Joe podcasting up to the pros like WOJM & Flag Points & Star Joes.
Yes! Alley Viper Zicari!
Love it! What’s next? I vote for an hour devoted to 80s WWF wrestling!
I’m only 2/3 of the way through the cast, but I’m really enjoying listening to everyone’s favorite Joe memories. Like many of you, I enjoyed the cartoon, but the comic is where the true background of GI Joe is in my opinion. I can’t wait to listen to the rest, but it will have to wait for my commute tomorrow morning.
I listened. I digested the information. I heard the love. I heard the stories on how GI Joe has affected people’s lives growing up. I will say this… I LOVED IT ALL. Now do the same for Transformers.
and for Masters of the Universe!
MOTU episode is in the works for May, no plans for a Transformers ep as of yet – Cold Slither’s TF ep was really good- we can’t top that!
A sincere apology to anyone who went to the trouble to fill out the G.I. Joe questionnaire to participate in the recording of this episode. There are lingering issues with the email inbox, as we only received 2 responses, and the other was redirected to a different email address only after discovering via Twitter that it was sent but never received. I know of at least 4 others that we didn’t get. We would have loved to share those responses on the show. Our sincerest regrets that we missed out.
