The visit from the in-laws.
A trip to an exotic locale.
The game show appearance.
One of the staples of the modern sitcom, the game show appearance is a tried and true ratings boost (maybe). Seeing our favorite sitcom characters compete on our favorite game shows is such a treat! As silly as the concept seems, it has made for some of the best moments in these series histories:
10. The Griffins on Family Feud (Family Guy)
9. Ralph, Ed, Alice & Trixie on Beat the Clock (The Honeymooners)
8. Eric Matthews on Singled Out (Boy Meets World)
(he does look like Chris Hardwick!)
7. Barney Stinson on The Price is Right (How I Met Your Mother)
6. Tracy Jordan on Cash Cab (30 Rock)
5. Marge Simpson on Jeopardy! (The Simpsons)
4. Fred Sanford & Smitty on The Gong Show (Sanford and Son)
3. Joey on Pyramid (Friends)
2. Dorothy, Rose & Charlie Dietz on Jeopardy! (Golden Girls/Empty Nest)
1. Cliff Clavin on Jeopardy! (Cheers)
Honorable Mentions:
Oscar & Felix on Password AND Let’s Make a Deal (The Odd Couple)
The Harpers on Family Feud AND Mama on Jeopardy! (Mama’s Family)
Paul on Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? (Spin City)
Mary & Sandra on Wheel of Fortune AND Family Feud (227)
Sandra on Love Connection (also 227)
Rerun on The Gong Show (What’s Happening!!)
Who did we forget? Here’s one that didn’t count since it’s not a sitcom, but I wanted to post it anyway:
Murdock on Wheel of Fortune (The A-Team)
Nell & Addy (Gimmie a Break) on Wheel of Fortune…
“Give me Liberty or Give me a brand new car!”
Another fantastic list, Howie! I can tell your researched your tail off for this one.
There was an episode of The Jamie Foxx Show where Jamie and Fancy appear on “Change of Heart”…
Mama’s Family had two game show episodes, one on Family Feud and another on Jeopardy!
Lenny & Squiggy (Laverne & Shirley) appear on an episode of The Dating Game…
and just so you don’t think I’m some kind of game show guru, here’s my source for all these tidbits:

I know it aint a tv show, but I always really enjoyed Rosie Perez on Jeopardy in White Men Can’t Jump.
So we talking game shows appearing on sitcoms and not sitcom stars appearing on game shows?
