Hello kiddies, your old Uncle Tanker here to bring to you my special Halloween holiday goodies.
For the past few years I have set a goal to watch 31 horror films (new & old) in 31 spooktacular days. This year isn’t any different, but I will bringing the experience to UnderScoopFire. Light your pumpkins, grab a bowl of candy corn and put your severed feet up- because it’s time for some movies!
Will they be Tricks? Or will they be Treats? I just hope ghoul enjoy yourself. (sorry)
Night of the Living Dead (1990)
A remake of the 1968 classic, makeup guru Tom Savini takes over the director’s chair and brings to life an underrated horror classic, that in some ways is better than the original. Armed with a bigger budget and better special effects, Night of the Living Dead is the story of a group of people trapped in a farmhouse fending off the advances of an army of the undead.
What makes this version great is the outstanding cast. From Tony Todd, Patricia Tallman and Tom Towles the cast of characters really encourages you to root for the good and jeer the bad. The gore is great and the simplistic story, though rehashed, seems fresh and is seen through a different prism.
I’ve heard many criticisms stating this version did nothing to update the story. I disagree- the characters were more fleshed (pun intended) out and the underlying themes weren’t as heavy handed. What you have is just a fun, updated version of a horror classic that knows what it is and doesn’t stray from the theme of just having a good time and enjoying a little blood and guts for an evening.
This film was a TREAT!
Stay tuned for tomorrow’s edition of Tank’s Tricks ‘r Treats!
Chris Tanski (@P0LISHPHEN0M) (the o’s are zeroes) lives in Rochester, NY & manages a movie theater. Being a child of the 80s, nothing gets him going more than a daily dose of movies from his childhood. They are his muse & inspire him to be a better human.
mmmmmm Patricia Tallman… mmmmmm
I wonder if we will be seeing more of Tony Todd as Candyman later this month.
I don’t know if I’ll hit one every day of the month but I’m doing what I can.
This is an excellent remake. I definitely dig on this one. The new cast alone gives it a different feel. And I like how they change the ending. (Even though the original had one of the greatest endings ever). This is a great watch… this and Snyder’s remake of “Dawn Of”
