The list of Star Wars character “almost-weres” is both lengthy and notorious at this point, but one that I will always find interesting (and am surprised it is not talked about more) is William Katt auditioning for the role of Luke Skywalker.
He really had the look, and it just goes to show how close some performers come to nailing a role that would have changed everything for them.
Check out the video here, and join me in refraining from singing “Believe it or not, I’m walkin’ on Sky” the rest of the afternoon. (Bonus: Kurt Russell Han Solo audition, whose presence has historically overshadowed Katt’s.) Hard to tell if it’s the dialogue or auditioning that is dreadful, but it surely makes you appreciate the final product.
The dialog is atrocious in places. As Ford has been quoted “You can write this shit George, but you can’t say it.” Plus, I can’t blame them because they have no clue of the context of what they’re being asked to say.
Also, Cindy Williams would have been a pretty cool Leia. But cute as she was I don’t think she could have pulled off the gold bikini.
and based on Cindy Williams’ recent appearance on Nickelodeon’s Sam & Kat (I have kids, don’t judge), Abrams must be pleased he doesn’t have to bring her in for Episode VII. She’s more Mon Mothma than Princess Leia now. I guess that would be the case with almost any actress now though.
No judging here, I watch more than the share of non-age appropriate TV. I accidentally stumbled into Sam & Cat this weekend and I might have actually kept watching if not for Cat. I had no idea of the show’s premise and was wondering what her deal was. Was she an alien, a robot, brain damaged? Then I figured she is either a horrible actress or a very talented actress that makes ditzy look natural.
Kat is played by Ariana Grande, who is Nick’s best version of the typical Disney star who releases a few albums and has a music career alongside their acting. She’s adequately talented, and seemingly charming in real life but her character can be grating if you can’t get past that ridiculous voice she does. It was kind of what drew us in the first time we came upon it, and now we watch it like it’s a sitcom for the whole family. (again, easily entertained).
