UnderScoopFIRE Podcast #8 – What ESPN’s AJ Mass can teach us about Denis Leary, The Iron Shiek & Justin Bieber

Conducting an interview on a podcast can be nerve-wracking for a novice like me. I have no professional experience. I have no journalistic training. Will I ask the right questions? How will the conversation flow? Can I facilitate an exchange that allows our guest to get his point accross? And my biggest fear: please don’t let the wheels come off of this podcast. If we derail from my script, how can I recover?

If you’re familiar with the work of ESPN Fantasy Analyst AJ Mass, you know there are no rails.

A conversation with AJ about Fantasy Sports can quickly evolve into a chat about The Iron Shiek, MTV in the 80s, monkey clocks and magic tricks. And we’d have it no other way.

What sets AJ apart from most is his wealth of personal experience, and the unique and varied nature of his background. A scan of the table of contents from his book How Fantasy Sports Explains the World: What Pujols and Peyton Can Teach Us About Wookiees and Wall Street is evidence of that.

You don’t have to be into fantasy sports to be engaged by this book. The ultra-broad spectrum of topics and references it covers makes it a wild read from cover to cover, and the amazing thing is that AJ relates it all back to fantasy. From Ricardo Montalban and Boo Berry cereal to WHIP and BABIP, this book had me laughing and taking notes for my next fantasy draft at the same time.

I invite you to listen to the UnderScoopFire podcast with special guest AJ Mass, and check out the book. Perhaps you could curl up and read it in front of the Yule Log on Christmas Eve.
