The 10 Comic Books to Look Forward To Most in 2015

in Comics, The Walking Dead

Safe to assume we all agree that comics are amazing and have become the engine that fuels the television and movie industry? Good, we’re all on the same four-color multi-panel page. Now let’s look at the coolest things coming to the comics rack in 2015.

CM Punk makes his comic book debut

Not as a character, but as a writer. Punk will be writing a story in Thor Annual #1, and that’s pretty much all we know right now. Will he make Thor the “Best in the World”? Or will Thor leave Marvel and tell all on Volstagg’s podcast The Art of Heroing? Time will tell.

Archie Comics

The Year of the Reboot continues. If Archie Comics are getting rebooted then it seems anyone can completely reinvent themselves. First take Mark Waid as the writer. Whether you enjoyed his take on Daredevil over the last few years of his legendary run on The Flash, Waid is known to make his readers care about every single character, major or minor, hero or villain.

Oh and you know that awesome comic Saga that barely missed this list? The one that all of your comic reading friends are going crazy about? Its artist Fiona Staples will be drawing this as well. It may be unexpected, but there’s a good chance that Archie Comics may be the most groundbreaking and award winning comic book of 2015.

The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl

Only one woman could beat Doctor Doom and Thanos and also babysit for Luke Cage. With the mutant abilities of a squirrel and the female ability to put a notch on Wolverine’s bedpost, Squirrel Girl can damn sure do anything she wants to. There is no telling what she will do in her own comic. Defeat Galactus? Don’t count Squirrel Girl out or you’re fucking nuts.

Chilling Adventure of Sabrina

If your only knowledge of Sabrina the Teenage Witch is via the Melissa Joan Hart series, you’re missing out. Sabrina now uses the Necronomicon and has a relationship with C’thulu. This ain’t your daddy’s, mommy’s, or big sister’s Archie Comics. Hell, this isn’t the Archie Comics of just a couple years ago. This is Cabin in the Woods through a Dan DeCarlo lens. It’s not just a sleeper book, it’s a “that which bumps in the night while you sleeper” book.

Star Wars

Disney bought Marvel. Disney bought Star Wars. It was only a matter of time before the two would meet. It’s only January and Star Wars #1 is already most likely to be the best selling comic of the year. It’s the best in nearly a decade, projecting at over one million copies sold. Then there is the Princess Leia series, the Darth Vader series, and much more to come before the end of the year. It’s almost as if there’s some major movie release this December?
