By now, you know how much we love G.I. Joe around here.
Whether you’re a current fan of the G.I. Joe franchise, or if the sound of lasers and Lady Jaye’s voice take you back to a simpler time, The Wordburglar’s most recent album, Welcome To Cobra Island (download it here) is a must listen.
I can’t sell you on the idea any better than a sample of the brilliant lyrics can, so here:
Extensive Enterprises and Weather Domination. Even got UN status as a Sovereign Nation.
Cryptic Order of Benevolent Reptilian Apostates. At least that’s what the law states.
We operate relaxed with impunity- y’gotta love Diplomatic Immunity.
Five square miles of territory and airspace so the Joes aren’t allowed to show their face.
Now where was I? Ahh the scenery past the Terror Drome where we keep our machinery,we got an airfield, hotel, a hospital, a beach, a swamp and a jungle that’s tropical.
Absolutely fantastic. The album’s songs take their inspiration from the Sunbow G.I. Joe animated series as well as Marvel’s Larry Hama-run G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero comic book. Song titles include gems such as: A Letter from Snake Eyes, Call Destro (my favorite), Rap-Viper, and Chuckles (The Last Laugh).
A sample lyric from Call Destro:
Well-established in the practice of helping the masses blow up each others stuff. I’m diplomatic. Pragmatic. Can’t make a business out of acting nice. You’re looking at the man who built the MASS Device.
Download Welcome To Cobra Island today, and come back here to let us know what your favorite song or lyrics are- I’ve been dying to discuss this album with my fellow Joe fans!
