Deadpool Set to Take on S.H.I.E.L.D. in December

This December marks the beginning of the Deadpool vs. S.H.I.E.L.D. story arc in issue #21 of the comic written by Brian Posehn and Gerry Duggan. The angle is a definite “shameless cash-in” (their words) on mainstream awareness of the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. television show, evidenced by Agent Coulson’s teased appearance (he’s not usually prevalent in comics where S.H.I.E.L.D. is mentioned/active).

From Deadpool Bugle:

It’s been a while since S.H.I.E.L.D. had Deadpool re-kill the reanimated Presidents of the United States – and Agent Gorman of S.H.I.E.L.D. stiffed him on his well-earned pay! After all, he doesn’t do this for free, y’know? Now it’s time to collect what he’s owed – even if he’s gotta take down all of S.H.I.E.L.D. to get paid! But with S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Preston’s consciousness still stuck in his head – how’s she going to feel about all this destruction? And is all this S.H.I.E.L.D. stuff a shameless cash-in because of the TV show? Ask guest-star AGENT COULSON!

Some of my favorite Deadpool comic arcs involve him interacting with the more popular groups and characters such as the X-Men, the Avengers, etc. It always seems to make him question his place in the Marvel Universe. This has the makings of a good arc, and should progress the story with Agent Preston’s consciousness. I’ve been a fan so far of that internal dialogue replacing his typical one-man inner conflicts.

Deadpool #21 will be released print and digital format this December.
