The 7 Most Underrated Cartoon Theme Songs

Kidd Video

Live action and cartoon, Kidd Video told the brave story of a bunch of young musicians living in a alternate world. I really don’t know how to put it any other way. In some parts of the world, the cast actually did go on tour and perform concerts. While an actual soundtrack was released and many, many songs appeared in every episode, the theme to Kidd Video will stick to you like gum on your shoe. Specifically the keyboard that would bring even Jason Gross to tears.

Wild West C.O.W-Boys of Moo Mesa

C.O.W-Boys of Moo Mesa came out at a time when every cartoon and toy line was trying to be the Ninja Turtles. This wasn’t even the worst attempt. In fact, the toys were pretty cool. The cartoon was not. It just seemed rather slow and kinda dull at times. The theme song was pretty catchy, though. I’ve always liked country music and it has a country-rock feel. The opening animation wasn’t bad either. I’d say out of this entire list, this one may be my personal favorite.

Police Academy The Series

The perfect ending to this article. This site was built upon a solid foundation of retro movies, toys, music and cartoons. Roll all of that together and I give you this…the theme song to Police Academy: The Animated Series, as sung by THE FAT BOYS. I don’t even need to continue with this entry. Anything I write beyond this will just detract from the awesomeness of this theme song.

Just a warning though, remember that watching the Police Academy cartoon will result in a massive headache that I refuse to take credit for. You were warned.

Can’t judge a book by it’s cover, and you definitely can’t judge a cartoon solely on a theme song. These songs are proof. Is there a song I left out? Sound off in the comments section!

Chad E. Young‘s love of G.I. Joe knows no bounds. He travelled from DC to Canada to meet Larry Hama. He once talked a toy dealer down from $100 to $35 for a beat up Terrordrome. He’s seen every episode of each cartoon from the Sunbow, DIC, and yes…EVEN G.I. Joe Extreme. He happens to know a thing or two about wrestling, too.

that Heathcliff song was my jam!

I never liked the Heathcliff show. I’d watch it, but I always wished it was like the original strip. Plus there was NEVER a Heathcliff/Riffraff fight. (at least I never saw it.) I prefer the OLDER Heathcliff show that was on ABC on Saturdays.

Heathcliff theme = instant hype. I LOVED that cartoon!!

I must nominate Dinosaucers for this. That theme is ROCKIN!!

Yes! Dino – saucers … dah dah dah dah!

Kevin Hellions July 8, 2013 at 6:54 pm

Wow. Better themesong, Heathcliff or Garfield? I will be debating this for awhile.

Without the Police Academy cartoon would we have the toys?

Whoa, whoa, whoa … What about Denver The Last Dinosaur? Talk about epic!!!

Howard Decker July 23, 2013 at 10:29 am

Loved Moo Mesa. It was sung by country singer Billy Dean who’s had a great career.

How can you leave out the classic ballad at the start of Star Blazers? I also liked the theme from the classic animated Godzilla show.

Guys, half of your videos have been taken down or are unavailable. Are you being targeted by the studios or something?
