The modern betting industry relies heavily on technology whether it be at land based bookmakers or online sports betting websites. Initially, something now as basic as having a website was a huge development for sports betting companies. Thanks to the continuous improvement in technology, a sportsbook having a website is now a given but how is technology continuing to improve sports betting?

One of the recent technological advancements to improve sports betting is the introduction of the 5G network. Although this is not currently available everywhere throughout the world, it is spreading fast and enables near instant downloads, lightning quick live streaming, and gaming. In terms of sports betting, 5G means gamblers can enjoy quick and reliable streams of live sporting action and statistics. 5G also brings with it the ability to update live betting odds faster than ever before meaning punters can take advantage of new odds almost instantly.

In-play betting itself is one of the latest additions to online bookmakers. The advancement in technology allows sports betting websites to offer customers the opportunity to place a bet on an event as it happens. That means the odds have to constantly change in conjunction with what is happening during the event and just a few years ago that seemed like a dream. However, it is now possible to load up a sports betting website, find an NFL game that is into the second quarter and still place a bet. There is no need to worry about missing the chance to have a wager on a game because you did not catch the start, live betting has changed that for the better.

Without being able to add funds to an online sports betting account, it would be impossible to enjoy a wager online. Initially, the majority of online sports bookmakers accepted debit and credit cards as methods of payment. That has slowly expanded over the years and now all good sports betting websites offer a huge variety of deposit and withdrawal methods. One of the most popular is PayPal and it took a while for some online bookmakers to integrate this payment method but it is now growing in the online gambling community.

Looking at the United States in particular, one glance at the CO sportsbooks that accept PayPal underlines how big this payment provider has become in the online gambling industry. Sportsbooks have legally been available in Colorado since May 2020 but there is already a great selection available, many of which accept PayPal. BetMGM Sports, Bet365, BetRivers, DraftKings and FanDuel are just some of the Colorado sports betting websites accepting PayPal and they use advanced encryption technology to ensure every transaction is safe.

Anyone who had attempted to access a website outside of their jurisdiction will have seen the message ‘Sorry, this website is not available in your region’. That is due to geolocation and the introduction of this technology has helped to prevent people accessing sports betting websites illegally. For example, in the US you can only use online bookmakers that have a license to operate in your state. More and more betting websites are choosing to use geolocation technology to prevent unauthorized users accessing their sportsbooks.
