For over three decades, The Simpsons has entertained fans with its hilarious take on small-town life, satire, and quirky characters. But Springfield isn’t just home to do-gooders like Lisa Simpson or loveable goofballs like Homer. It also boasts some of the most dastardly evil characters in television history. Whether driven by greed, power, or pure pettiness, these villains make the town of Springfield more exciting and dangerous. Here’s your guide to the worst of the worst.

1. Mr. Burns: The Ultimate Corporate Villain

Charles Montgomery Burns, better known as Mr. Burns, epitomises evil. As the Springfield Nuclear Power Plant owner, he’s a billionaire who cares only about money and power. Mr. Burns is notorious for his schemes to exploit workers, block out the sun to boost energy profits, and even steal candy from babies. His frail appearance hides a heart full of greed and a mind that is always plotting. Remember the time he tried to kill the Loch Ness Monster for profit? Classic Burns.

Why He’s Evil:

  • Exploits employees like Homer for pennies.
  • Once, he blocked out the sun to keep Springfield reliant on his nuclear plant.
  • Has a catchphrase that’s literally “Excellent,” accompanied by villainous hand-rubbing.

2. Sideshow Bob: The Criminal Genius

Sideshow Bob, whose real name is Robert Terwilliger, is a former Krusty the Clown sidekick turned murderous criminal. He’s brilliant, loves Shakespeare, and has one goal: killing Bart Simpson. Why? Because Bart ruined his plan to frame Krusty for robbery. Over the years, Bob has devised elaborate schemes to end Bart’s life, from building traps to running for mayor. Despite his genius, Bob gets caught, often by stepping on a rake and knocking himself out.

Why He’s Evil:

  • Obsession with revenge against a 10-year-old.
  • Framed Krusty for armed robbery.
  • Once rigged an election to become Springfield’s mayor.

3. Snake Jailbird: The Petty Crook

Snake Jailbird is Springfield’s resident thief, always robbing the Kwik-E-Mart or holding someone hostage. With his long hair, leather jacket, and catchphrase “Yoink!”, Snake represents petty crime in its most entertaining form. While he lacks Mr. Burns’s intelligence or Sideshow Bob’s creativity, Snake’s repeated offences and unrepentant nature make him one of Springfield’s worst.

Why He’s Evil:

  • Constantly robs Apu’s Kwik-E-Mart.
  • Steals cars, wallets, and pretty much anything not nailed down.
  • Once kidnapped, Bart and Lisa for ransom.

4. Fat Tony: The Mob Boss

Fat Tony leads Springfield’s mafia with a mix of charm and menace. Whether it’s running illegal gambling dens, selling rat-infested milk to schools, or threatening anyone who crosses him, Fat Tony’s criminal empire touches every corner of Springfield. He often uses Homer as an unwitting pawn in his schemes, but even Homer’s stupidity can’t match Tony’s ruthlessness.

Why He’s Evil:

  • Controls Springfield’s underworld with an iron fist.
  • Manipulates people into doing his dirty work.
  • Don’t think twice about “making people disappear.”

5. Dolph, Jimbo, and Kearney: The School Bullies

What’s worse than one school bully? Three of them! Dolph, Jimbo, and Kearney terrorise the halls of Springfield Elementary, targeting nerds like Martin Prince and younger kids like Bart. These guys may not be as evil as Mr. Burns or as murderous as Sideshow Bob, but their constant cruelty makes them a nightmare for anyone at school.

Why They’re Evil:

  • Steal lunch money and bully weaker kids.
  • Pull pranks that often hurt others.
  • Once stole Bart’s pants in public just for laughs.

6. The Rich Texan: Greedy and Reckless

The Rich Texan, known for his cowboy hat, flashy lifestyle, and obsession with money, is Springfield’s symbol of greed. He doesn’t have a heart as black as Mr Burns, but his reckless behaviour, like buying out landmarks and firing people for fun, makes him a villain in his own right. Plus, he’s not afraid to use his wealth to get whatever he wants, no matter who gets hurt.

Why He’s Evil:

  • Puts profits over people.
  • Ruins Springfield’s history with his selfish purchases.
  • Treats everyone like disposable pawns in his money-making schemes.

Some Springfield residents have their bad moments, but they don’t qualify as pure evil. For example:

  • Patty and Selma Bouvier: They’re mean to Homer but aren’t actively malicious.
  • Krusty the Clown: Selfish and unethical, but too lazy to be truly evil.
  • Mayor Quimby: Corrupt but more comical than dangerous.
