In gaming, nostalgia has a strong influence, especially given how quickly technology advances. It is not surprising that the great majority of games from 20+ years ago look downright antiquated by today’s standards since game genres and design methods can be quickly declared out of date in such a fast-moving business. A game that will endure the test of time requires a lot of talent and good fortune.

Most retro games are considered to be those released between the 1980s and 1990s which were years in which arcades and home consoles had a different philosophy and on which a significant portion of the sagas that we play today were based.

There’s a reason why so many people are into them: The nostalgia for our youth and the “good old days” still has the power to pique our attention like nothing else, just like with every item considered vintage.

We’ve compiled a list of some of the top classic video games so you won’t have to limit your friends to just one choice the next time they want to play something from the past.

Super Mario Bros 3:

Super Mario and his parent firm Nintendo are practically synonymous with video games, so there is really no need to introduce them. Mario has appeared in so many various game genres that listing them all would take too long. But Super Mario Bros 3 could be one of the best ambassadors overall because of its gameplay and the overall replay value it offers.

The over-world interface, which is used to traverse between levels, was one of the components that this game introduced that would later become a staple of Mario games. Super Mario Bros. 3, which was released in 1990, is generally recognized as the greatest video game of all time and ought to be at the top of any gamer’s “must play” list.

Tetris:

When it first came out in the 1980s, it was one of the best video games ever developed, and it still holds that title today.

Tetris is an all-time great when we talk about puzzle games. It was created in 1984 by Alexey Pajitnov and has earned a reputation as one of the best retro video games. The game aims to fill the rows of falling blocks of various shapes without leaving any gaps to score points. There is a multiplayer version of the game where you may compete against other players from around the world to see who the last one remaining will be if you want to really bring out your competitive side!

The Legend of Zelda (A Link to the Past):

A Link to the Past was one of the best video games to be released in the 1990s, and it contends as also one of the best games overall of the series. It’s a classic Zelda game with all the qualities of a great game: interesting gaming mechanics, a captivating narrative, and the endearing characters who initially made us fall in love with the series.

The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past essentially set the stage for what the series would become moving forward, even though each Zelda game that came after would add its own twist to the concept. The Master Sword, the Hookshot, and increased health have now become common characteristics. Furthermore, the game is so well regarded and beautifully made that a direct sequel was released in 2013.

Bonus:

1894 was the year that saw the creation of the first slot machine. The Liberty Bell, a device invented by Charles Fey, has a well-known shape that we’ve all grown to appreciate. Three rotating reels, one pay line, and a completely automatic payout mechanism were all features of the Liberty Bell slot machine.

The slots have advanced through time and their popularity has reached such heights that today it’s one of the most played games on online casinos that offer slots on their digital versions, following the same principles as the original ones, including the features that allow players to win big prizes. At the same time, the proliferation of the no deposit casino type of bonus lets players enjoy every money-winning advantage without the need of using their own money. This is increasing, even more, the number of adepts to slot machines.
