The heroes of Eternia were just as memorable as the villains. While the evil warriors were often chaotic and comedic, the heroic side of the battle was built around courage, loyalty, and some very distinctive character designs. At the center of it all was He-Man, the most powerful man in the universe and defender of Castle Grayskull.
Still, Eternia’s defense was never a one person job. The heroic warriors included inventors, warriors, sorcerers, and even a few characters whose main contribution seemed to be showing up at the right time. Some were essential to protecting Eternia while others were more memorable for their personalities than their effectiveness.
Here is a ranking of the major heroic characters from least impactful to most legendary.
18. Buzz-Off
Buzz-Off brings aerial support as the leader of the Andreenid people. While useful in theory, he does not play a large role in many major battles.
17. Mekaneck
Mekaneck can extend his neck to great lengths which helps with reconnaissance. It is a helpful ability but not exactly a game changer in combat.
16. Sy-Klone
Sy-Klone spins at high speed to create tornado like attacks. His design is memorable even if he appears less frequently than other heroes.
15. Fisto
Fisto has tremendous strength and a giant metal fist. He is tough in battle but often plays a supporting role.
14. Ram Man
Ram Man uses his helmet and armor to launch himself like a battering ram. His bravery is unquestioned but his strategy usually involves charging straight ahead.
13. Stratos
Stratos rules the aerial kingdom of Avion and provides valuable air support. His jet powered wings give the heroes important mobility.
12. Man-E-Faces
Man-E-Faces can rotate between three faces including human, robot, and monster. His ability to switch personalities adds an interesting twist to the heroic lineup.
11. Roboto
Roboto is a heroic robot who wants to understand humanity. His interchangeable mechanical hands make him versatile in battle.
10. Moss Man
Moss Man can blend into forests and control plant life. His connection to nature gives him a unique role among the heroes.
9. Zodac
Zodac serves as a cosmic enforcer who tries to maintain balance in the universe. He does not always fight directly but his presence carries weight.
8. Orko
Orko is the comic relief magician from Trolla. His spells often go wrong, yet he remains loyal and occasionally saves the day.
7. Teela
Teela is the captain of the royal guard and one of the most capable fighters in Eternia. She also plays a central role in protecting Prince Adam.
6. Man-At-Arms
Man-At-Arms is the chief inventor and military strategist for Eternia. His gadgets and leadership help the heroes stay one step ahead of Skeletor.
5. Battle Cat
Battle Cat is the armored form of Cringer and the fearless mount of He-Man. In battle he is as formidable as many of the warriors themselves.
4. The Sorceress
Sorceress of Castle Grayskull guards the secrets of Castle Grayskull and provides mystical guidance to the heroes. Her power and wisdom are critical to Eternia’s survival.
3. King Randor
King Randor leads Eternia and represents the kingdom’s strength and stability. His leadership inspires the heroes to continue their fight against evil.
2. She-Ra
She-Ra is the twin sister of He-Man and a hero in her own right. She later becomes the central figure in She-Ra: Princess of Power and proves just as powerful and determined as her brother.
1. He-Man
At the top stands He-Man. As the defender of Castle Grayskull and the champion of Eternia, he represents strength, bravery, and the classic hero archetype of 1980s animation. When Skeletor launches another attack, Eternia always knows who will stand in the way.
Together these heroes form one of the most recognizable teams in 1980s television. Their battles against Skeletor and the forces of evil helped make He-Man and the Masters of the Universe a defining cartoon of its era.
