The phrase “based on a true story” is undoubtedly one of the qualifiers that makes a movie more interesting. It really shows the realistic part of life, and does not indulge you into believing that only happy endings exist. Lion is such a movie that shows struggles, home sickness, tears and happiness. It is a must watch movie!

Lion really roared at Australia’s box office, and many Australians were present to see this story on the big screens. The movie has already made $27.5 million and the critics have all been positive. It looks like this movie will mark the career of the dashing Dev Patel, who also starred in Life of Pi and Slumdog Millionaire. This film already has nominations in the upcoming SAG and BAFTA awards, and could feature in the Oscar nominations. Let’s keep our fingers crossed!

Let’s take a sneak peek into the movie Lion. Based on the book, A long way home written by Saroo Brierly, this movie tells the real life story of the latter. Adopted by a Tasmanian couple, young Saroo moves to Australia, however he is haunted by his past life flashbacks. Saroo, lost his way in his homeland, India, when he was a kid. He spent his childhood looking for his mother and brother, but he landed in an orphanage. After spending days there, he was adopted by Sue and John, who gave him a better life, across the oceans. The award winning actress, Nicole Kidman plays the role of Saroo’s adopted mother in the movie.

Through his adulthood, he is often asked about his origins due to his Indian looks. He is always tortured by the memory of his brother, Guddu, calling out for him. Guided by some University friends, he finally decides to look for his homeland on Google Earth. Only remembering that he was from Calcutta, he spends days looking for the exact place where he once lived. Eureka! One fascinating day, he finds the spot he grew at. Determined to find out about his long lost mother and brother, he packs his bags and fly to Khandwa- his homeland. Will Saroo find his mother and brother? Do they still live there? Will it be a happy ending or not?  And why is the movie’s title “Lion”? Watch this movie and you shall unlock these mysteries.
