Cats > Housework: Hasbro Reveals New Monopoly Token

Good news cat lovers! Move over, Laundromat Lotharios.

Hasbro, the manufacturer who has a capital on things Monopoly®, announced today that after a landslide Facebook vote, one of its more questionable game tokens would be replaced by something a little bit more…en-purring.

Beating out four other token possibilities, including a robot, a diamond ring, a helicopter, and a guitar, Cleopatra herself can breathe a sigh of relief to know that the cat is back on top.

Joining the ilk of the already established car, thimble, boot, Scottie dog, battleship, hat, and wheelbarrow, the cat’s design follows the others in sleek monotone chrome and will be the joy of single 50-something women everywhere.

But don’t be so steamed, clean freaks. The iron token will still be a game piece standard throughout the rest of 2013 as Hasbro rolls out their…pawsomely democratic new edition.

Will YOU be playing as the new cat on the block? Comment below and tell us what you think, and be sure to check out Hasbro’s “Save Your Token” Facebook page.

Dogs and Cats living together in the same box? Craziness.

Howie Decker February 6, 2013 at 3:05 pm

Dex (@Dex1138) February 6, 2013 at 2:22 pm

Dammit, I wanted the robot!

Howie Decker February 6, 2013 at 3:00 pm

Seriously how did the robot not win? We need to take over Facebook voting for anything of this magnitude in the future!

Count Marzo February 6, 2013 at 5:23 pm

Me three on the Robot. Definitely the coolest piece there. I knew the damn Cat was gonna win.

Howie Decker February 6, 2013 at 5:38 pm

I didn’t even know about this vote. I would have been rallying the brigade to go vote for anything but the cat. The copter is dope too!

You bite your tongue. I bet everytime you walk into Giant or Safeway you are mobbed with male suitors.

Howie Decker February 7, 2013 at 8:10 am

By the way, that’s just me trying to name MD-area grocery stores. I purposely left out Wegmans because I refuse to add to their bid for global domination

shezcrafti February 7, 2013 at 11:06 pm

False. I shop at Food Lion.

Howie Decker February 8, 2013 at 7:03 am

DAMN I ALMOST PUT THAT why am I so into this

Count Marzo February 9, 2013 at 5:45 am

Food Lion is awesome. That was definitely a grocery store I remember going to quite a bit in Florida as a kid back in the wonderful 1980s. Also Publix and Piggly Wiggly!! Pretty sure one or two of them had a mini toy section and they actually had MOTU, GoBots, Joes and such. I (barely) remember coming home with said figures from some of those grocery store trips.

Howie Decker February 9, 2013 at 8:50 am

Same here! My grandparents were in FL, and I looked forward to going to those stores because they were different. The one near them that had a decent toy section was Albertsons. I got Joes there, and I specifically remember getting Steelheart from the Silverhawks there.

Food Lion didn’t pop up until the end of our trips there, but Publix was a regular as well as Winn Dixie. There was also a dept store called J Byron that my grandma would make me go to but they had a small toy section like tj maxx does now. Memories!

Count Marzo February 9, 2013 at 9:27 am

Aw yeah…Winn Dixie too! I knew I was forgetting one. Definitely remember that grocery store! #Memories

Did you have family in FL too? Hard to explain us both living in western NY as Miami Dolphins fans

Count Marzo February 9, 2013 at 8:16 pm

Yup. Lifelong Marino/Dolphins fan. Had lots of family down in Florida.

I also had/have lots of family in upstate NY too. Most of my years were spent in Western NY, some wonderful childhood 80s years in Florida, and also up up upstate NY in the Adirondack area. They have Grand Union and Price Chopper stores round those parts that I recall visiting. Dunno if they still exist.
