It’s been five years since Alien: Prometheus – the first in the Alien prequel series – hit theatres. Now, fans of the science-fiction horror franchise anxiously awaiting its sequel (and sixth installment in the overall film series), Alien: Covenant, are geeking-out over newly revealed images from the upcoming film.
The new images revealed some pretty gruesome footage of the film including a glimpse at the movie’s antagonist, the deadly Neomorph, a nasty looking creature that based on the graphic image enjoys feasting on human flesh. In another still, a mysterious figure appears to be unleashing pods on the Engineers planet. The speculation is that the figure is David, the android from Prometheus, which may confirm earlier reports of how Covenant will be directly linked to the 2012 movie.
What’s more, according to Alien: Covenant director, Sir Ridley Scott, who also directed the movies Alien and Prometheus, the sequel to Covenant has already been written and is ready to go. While it’s not surprising that there will be a sequel, as Scott had stated back in 2015 that there would be two more Alien films following Covenant, what is shocking is that the third film in the prequel series is ready to go.
As revealed in an interview with the 79-year old award-winning UK director, Scott stated that “You’ve got to assume to a certain extent success and from that you’d better be ready.” He added that “You don’t want a two-year gap. So I’ll be ready to go again next year.”
Scott has also said that the next two films after Covenant would be “origin stories” that would provide answers to the “very basic questions” that were posed in Alien, released way back in 1979. Questions such as who made the Xenomorph (the Alien) and where it came from. Scott has said that he intends for these movies to wrap around and link back to Alien, leading right up to the events of Ripley and the original crew of the Nostromo. However, when that happens and how it happens remains a mystery.
The Alien: Covenant story revolves around the crew of the colony ship Covenant and Walter, an android similar to David (a survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition), who head to a remote planet that they at first think is a paradise only to discover it is inhabited by dark and deadly creatures and the original David android. The film is set to be released in the U.S. on May 19th, 2017.
If you’re finding it difficult to wait, why not re-watch the old movies or – even better – check out the Aliens online video slot, which is based on the popular second film in the franchise.
Developed by NetEnt in association with 20th Century Fox, the Aliens slot is a 3D masterpiece that invites players to join Ellen Ripley in her epic battle against the nasty aliens. You can activate three different levels, trigger special features and enjoy clips from the movie.
Of course, if you really want to prepare for the upcoming movie, you might want to revisit Prometheus and refresh your memory before Covenant comes out.
